Joining Our Program

Recruitment

Students are actively recruited at the end of 5th grade through recommendations from elementary school counselors and teachers. We target students who are attending elementary schools that track into the middle schools served by the JL-HMDP. New students are also accepted through the ninth grade. Any enrollments after the 9th grade are under the discretion of the program director.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Hispanic Female 
  • GPA of 2.5 (85) or better 
  • Enrolled in a targeted school
  • Both student and mother commit to participate in the program 
  • Under special circumstances, another adult can participate with the student

Good Standing Criteria 

    Middle School Program (6th-8th grade)

  • Mother-daughter teams must complete 16 hours of conference time.
  • Mother-daughter teams in 6th -8th grade are required to complete 15 hours of volunteer service, per individual annually, to fulfill this program requirement. If an individual exceeds 15 hours, then only two additional hours can be carried over to conference hours. 
  • Students, barring test or projects, must attend all campus group meetings if in attendance at school 

    High School Program (9th -12th)

  • Mother-daughter teams must complete 12 hours of conference time.
  • Mother-daughter teams must complete 20 hours of volunteer service, per individual annually, to fulfill this program requirement. if an individual exceeds 20 hours, then only two can be carried over to conference hours.
  • Students, barring test or projects, must attend all campus group meetings if in attendance at school
