Our Purpose

The JL-HMDP was founded in 1992 to increase the representation of Hispanic women in higher education, by supporting girls who have the academic potential to succeed in college, and their mothers.  The JL-HMDP is a collaborative effort of the Junior League of Austin and The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work.  Funding for the program has been generously provided by the RGK Foundation and the United Way Capital Area.

This college preparatory program targets Hispanic females who have the academic potential to become a family's first female college graduate.  By offering an alternative life path, JL-HMDP also serves as a powerful teen pregnancy and high school drop out prevention program.  Outreach services are also provided to parents.  These services include  mother-daughter conferences and parent support groups.
